QLD: ATSIC calls for support for indigenous groups in tourism

CAIRNS, Feb 8 AAP - ATSIC has accused tourism operators in far north Queensland of
failing to support indigenous performance groups.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) regional commissioner Terry
O'Shane said indigenous performances were much sought after by international visitors
but local operators failed to show the same enthusiasm.

Mr O'Shane said the issue was highlighted this weekend when operators of a Japanese
cruise liner sought an indigenous dance group to perform for passengers …
