Altamont Programs Inc., a local nonprofit organization founded by the Rev. Peter G. Young, received one of 53 federal grants to help homeless veterans get back on their feet.
Beginning next month, Altamont Programs will receive $19 a night for each veteran housed at the Schuyler Inn in Menands, up to a maximum of 32 veterans a night for three years.
But with the grant comes controversy.
In the Capital Region, some local leaders are livid that the federal government would choose to give grants to groups with no experience in specifically targeting needy veterans.
