Fed: Overview of state of environment - ABS report
An overview of Australia's environmental state as recorded by the Australian Bureauof Statistics:
* Income per person rose to $27,245 in 2000-01, from $21,000 in 1990-91.
* National wealth rose to $127,329 per capita, from $118,000 a decade ago.
* Consumption of freshwater resources rose to 23,300 gigalitres annually in 1996-97,from 14,600 GL in 1983-84.
* States recorded air temperature rises of up to one degree Celsius in the past 50 years.
* Energy consumption increased by 23 per cent during the 1990s as the population increasedby under 10 per cent.
